History of National Fresh Squeezed Juice Day
Did you know that, the word juice came itself from old French where the words, ‘jus,’ ‘juis,’ or ‘jouis’ refer to the liquid obtained from boiling herbs? Where in other words it was recorded as the words, for other liquids such as broths, soups, or even sauces. In the late 14 century, the juice was s recorded as “the watery part of fruits or vegetables,” aligning it with the current meaning of the word. However, later on in the 19th century the word juice was changed and coming to mean liquor
Do you know that, the term reverted to meaning the liquid extracted from fruits and vegetables when the juicer was invented in the 1930s by Norman Walker? Where the person named Walker was born in Italy and moved to New York in the year 1910. When he became seriously ill, he consulted William Baum who was a chiropractor and physical therapist, who recommended he switch to a raw vegetarian diet.
This is how he invented an innovatively engineered juicer that is still in demand today. Also, he even founded the Norwalk Laboratory of Nutritional Chemistry and Scientific Research and conducted research on the nutritional qualities of juices.
As of today 2024, juices have become part of diets across the world, with orange being a staple in American breakfasts. Whereas many other kinds of juicers are able to extract vital nutrients from fruits and vegetables without losing them to heat. Moreover, the hydraulic ‘triturator’ juicer developed by Walker does a great job of this. Where as others include twin-gear juicers and slow juicers.
