National Independent Beer Run Day – July 3, 2024

July 3 is the day when beer lovers across the country call for Americans to buy craft-made beer ahead of Independence Day. On this day, many independent beer lovers will be raising a toss of glass for their annual celebration this year.

The event is intended to promote independence from imported beers and from significant beer business practices that threaten autonomous craft brewers. On this day whether you enjoy ales, lagers, stouts, or IPAs, this day encourages beer enthusiasts to visit local breweries, craft beer stores, or taprooms to discover new brews and show support for small businesses

HISTORY OF NATIONAL INDEPENDENT BEER RUN DAY

The day July 3 as National Independent Beer Run Day was declared by the Brewers Association, the organization behind American Craft Beer Week and Savor, an American Craft Beer and Food Experience.

Did you know that the first American larger was brewed in the year 1840 by John Wagner, a German immigrant who brought a brewing yeast with him to Philadelphia, marking the beginning of the modern U.S. beer industry? The country’s very first large brewery was opened in the year 1857 that produces, 1,000 barrels; today, Budweiser alone makes more than 100 million barrels per year.

Before the ages, most American beer was brewed by small companies in their local communities, until prohibition was repealed in the year 1933 beer companies also had to be at least partially owned by Americans to sell beer.

Because only large companies had the resources to comply with the new legal requirements for breweries, smaller brewers were acquired or went out of business, and within five years of Prohibition’s repeal, nearly all beer production was controlled by just 50 companies.
The prohibition ended after some years, and then the beer lover across America rejoiced at their newfound freedom. By the year 1980, there were 42 independent breweries in the United States.
However, this National Independent Beer Run Day is an unofficial holiday that encourages beer lovers to support local breweries.
